A lovely picture,
taken outside one of our favourite pubs, O'Donohue's
on the Fanore road on the coast of County Clare. The
Fanore road was recently voted by the world famous, 'Conde
Naste' travel magazine as one of the top ten most beautiful
stretches of road in the world. So we always stop at
O'Donohue's for a quiet one before making our way to
Lisdoonvarna. The picture was taken in May of 1998. |

Here's a wee picture
I took in April of '98 in a town called Belleek, where
we end our Donegal tour, (the factory is just around
the corner where one can see the amazing Belleek china
being crafted). Rooney's is a lovely wee pub. Our hotel
is right behind me, the sun's shining, the Guinness is
cold, smooth, and good for you and we've just had a wonderful
day on the bikes. Things could be a lot worse. |

Picture taken inside
the thatch pub in Ballysadare, county Sligo in April
'98. Hard to tell which one has the biggest smile, Carolyn or Shannon.
And what on earth they could be smiling at??? |

South Africans, stopping
for some 'light refreshments' at one of our many wee
pubs along the route
. In the picture we have, Spiro,
the King, Hanna and Peter Lambouris. They're all debating
whether to buy post cards, groceries or Guinness in Conlon's.
We eventually came to a decision - we had a pint, bought
a few bananas and sent some post cards
. |
 |
 |
Spiro,
'the Greek' contemplating before his Guinness arrives.
Pub - Polkes, Ballycastle, county Sligo. If you look
hard into the picture you'll see in the background that
it is a grocery shop out front. This is pretty common
in this neck of the woods. |

 |
This is one of our
favourite pubs, Paddy's, just outside Toombeola, in Connemara.
The picture was taken on a lovely sunny June day in 1998.
One can see from the shot that there are a lot of bikes
standing around but very few people. One of the people
is Derry. Ask him what the Clare/Galway tour is like. |
 |
 |
Read the jersey. Not
a bad philosophy
. I would like to tell you that Eamon is
getting stuck into a nice bowl of soup there at the bar
but I suspect it might be something else altogether
|
 |
 |
A few more South Africans
outside Bierne's in county Mayo. The road that this pub
is on is such a beautiful road; practically traffic free
and totally overgrown with trees and bushes. Lovely to
cycle on. |
 |
 |
The Seligman family
from New York. Got Guinness?! |
 |
 |
Hard
to believe it's a pub, but it is! |
 |
 |
Here we have a couple
of ex-marines, a teacher, an artist, and a couple of
other troubemakers enjoying a couple of pints in one
of ou favorite pubs in the west, O'Donoghue's in Fanore,
just a couple of miles before the Cliffs of Moher. Picture
was taken in 2000. They have all booked to come
back this year. looking forward to it guys. |

The Bridge Bar, with
all the bikes lined up outside
Bridge Bar, Bundoran, west of Ireland. I see bikes,
but no riders.... |
 |
 |
Man and woman up at the bar dressed in blue
This is what the inside of O'Donoghue's looks like. Nice
wee pub. |
 |
 |
Linnane's pub
Here's Jane, sporting her lovely blue shorts, on a particularly
lovely day, heading into Linnane's in Killfenora for
a quiet one. |
 |
 |
Kelly & me.
Am afraid this is becoming an all too familiar sight,
Kelly with a Guinness in her hand... |
 |
 |
5 outside Matt Molloy's
Famous pub. Famous bikers. Matt Molloy happens
to be a member of Ireland most respected traditional
Irish music bands, Planxty, (check them out). The
five outside in the biking gear told me they were famous. Don't
know what for. |
 |
 |
2 girls & Eddy with
the Guinness
One Irishman, two Minnesottans and three pints of Guinness. Some
would say a dangerous combination. |
 |
 |
O'Marras and Guinness
A bunch of restauranteurs from Danbury, Connecticutt,
looking a little, shall we say, happy?! If you
are ever in Danbury, make sure and go visit one of
their two restaurants, right there on the main street
- 'Ciao', and 'Two Steps. |
